The national shortage of qualified HGV drivers is continuing to create problems in many sectors, including the waste industry. The Council has been reallocating resources to help maintain services but, unfortunately, the on-going pressures will lead to a suspension in garden waste collections from Monday 23rd August through to Friday 27th August.
Councillor Ray Faulkner, Deputy Leader for Environment and Housing, said: “Like many other local authorities, we are continuing to battle against the pressures arising from the national shortage of HGV drivers. We are deploying all available resources but, unfortunately, have to announce a further disruption to our garden waste service.
“Once again, this decision has not been taken lightly and we are doing everything we can to keep our resources at the required level. We are ensuring our statutory responsibility to provide both residual (grey bin) and recycling (blue bin) collections are maintained.”
The Council is monitoring its resources on a daily basis but cannot rule out further disruption, so please keep an eye on the website and on social media for the latest information.
