East Staffordshire Borough Council has today launched its Stage 3 consultation for the Towns Fund Project D – High Street Linkages.
The purpose of Project D is to look at how to regenerate the riverside area between High Street and the Washlands, running from the Market Place up to the Burton Bridge (Trent Bridge), creating new and exciting ways for people to enjoy this area and looking to improve the linkages between the riverside and the town centre.
The previous stages of consultation, lasting nine weeks, invited members of the public to suggest ideas that could be included in the emerging scheme and to comment on emerging proposals for the different areas of the site. The Stage 3 consultation, which will be open for four weeks, puts forward a final indicative proposal to be further explored in the business case for the project and tested in the market.
Councillor George Allen, Deputy Leader for Regeneration and Planning Policy, said:
“The proposals for this project have been created using the ideas and aspirations of residents in and around Burton to establish a mixed use scheme with new leisure, food and drink uses overlooking the riverside.
“Some of the ideas from the consultation responses that have been incorporated include new indoor and outdoor leisure facilities, a viewing platform at the top of the water tower and a new, modern food hall at the centre of the development.”
The consultation will be open until Monday 10th January 2022 and can be found on the project website
