East Staffordshire Borough Council has joined other local authorities across Staffordshire in declaring it’s ready to support and welcome those displaced by war in Europe.
Following a statement presented at Full Council on Monday 28th February on the current situation in Ukraine - supported unanimously across the Council Chamber - Councillor George Allen joined leaders from across Staffordshire in writing to The Prime Minister and Home Secretary to make it clear East Staffordshire stands ready and able to welcome those displaced by war in Europe.
Councillor George Allen, acting Leader of the Council, said: “We have all seen the heart breaking images and read the tragic stories of those people affected by the atrocities in Ukraine. My heart goes out to everyone impacted.
“More than a million people have fled the country and with many more expected to follow the Council stands ready to work with all our partners and provide assistance to those in need.
“I was very pleased to join Leaders from across Staffordshire to support this urgent humanitarian crisis and the Council will be ready to do all it can to support those in need.
“I would like to thank everyone in East Staffordshire who is already playing their part to provide much-needed support and aid to the people of Ukraine.”
