East Staffordshire Borough Council has announced a cross-party working group is set to be formed to undertake a review into the sustainable use for the future of Burton Market Hall.
At a Full Council meeting in March 2022, Councillors agreed to begin a review of sustainable options for the Market Hall, to include a cross-party working group, with a view to future investment from the Council, subject to viability.
Councillor Colin Wileman, ward member for Brizlincote, will chair the cross-party working group and will be inviting Members from all political groups to participate.
Councillor George Allen, Leader of the Council, said: “Following the submission of the Towns Fund programme, the Council made the commitment to review options for the sustainable future of the Market Hall and I’m pleased to announce work is about to start.
“The options will be considered with a view to future investment from the Council and with the second round of the Levelling Up Fund opening later this year, this provides an opportunity for the Council to bid for funding to help revitalise the Market Hall and Market Place.”
Councillor Colin Wileman, ward member for Brizlincote and chairman of the group, added: “I’m delighted to have been asked to chair this important cross-party working group. I looking forward to working closely with my fellow Councillors from across the political spectrum in reviewing the sustainable options for the future of Burton Market Hall.”
