Expressions of Interest Sought for Potential Operators and Tenants in Burton Market Hall’s Exciting New Vision

East Staffordshire Borough Council is dedicated to shaping a vibrant future for Burton Market Hall, with the new vision set to spark regeneration for both the Market Hall and its surrounding area. Following a public consultation in early 2024, the Council is actively exploring redevelopment opportunities to transform the Market Hall into a dynamic, mixed-use space that meets the needs of today’s community.

Driven by a strong commitment to local vitality, the Council aims to create a welcoming hub that supports local businesses, honours cultural heritage, and fosters community connections. This redevelopment reflects the Council’s aims to make the Market Hall an integral part of the town’s growth and future success.

Based on local feedback, the proposed vision features a blend of modern and craft retail, fresh food offerings, a new food and drink area with communal seating, and flexible co-working spaces, all aimed at supporting the town’s small business community.
As part of the early planning stages, Next Phase, on behalf of East Staffordshire Borough Council, is inviting expressions of interest from prospective operators and tenants who share this vision for a revitalised Market Hall. At this preliminary stage, expressions of interest will help assess the level of interest and inform initial discussions around potential site operations ahead of any future procurement process.

The Council is particularly interested in hearing from operators with a wide range of hospitality, events, or market operations experience, and potential tenants who can bring a diverse mix of retail, food and beverage options, as well as businesses that can offer memorable and unique experiences for the community. By gathering this input, the Council aims to build an understanding of how the Market Hall could serve as a vibrant community anchor.

Expressions of interest are open until Monday, 16th December 2024. Submissions will be reviewed as part of the ongoing planning process, contributing to the Council’s evaluation of the project’s feasibility and potential impact.

Burton Market Hall is part of a broader set of initiatives under consideration for Burton, including the Brewing Museum concept at Bass House and proposed waterside walkways linking Bass House with the Market Hall. These efforts aim to support footfall, community engagement, and economic growth within the town, subject to future funding and approvals.

Cllr Paul Walker, East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Cultural Development, said: “It’s great to see the launch of the next phase of this work to shape the future of Burton Market Hall. I would like to encourage any potential operator or small business to get in touch if they are interested in being part of this exciting opportunity”
